Ferrero Rocher Christmas Tree is the perfect combination of decoration and decadence! Christmas is a time of abundance in our house. I love to have treats on display that guest and family can just walk past and help themselves to.
I've made these a little early this year as I wanted to inspire other to make their own version. This tradition started with my mother-in-law. She had one of these decorations on the dining room table in the lead up to Christmas. With all the family visiting the tree was ravished each day. Christmas magic prevailed and the Ferrero Rocher tree got all of it's sparkle back overnight. It started each new day full of chocolates.
When I asked where she bought the tree she told me she made it! Naturally I got step by step instructions and my mission was to make my own the following year. My first attempt was in 2015 and I was really pleased with the result. I have a picture of it below. I even made a Youtube to show how it was made. This pictures went up on a website I owned at the time.
Now I've decided to redo the Ferrero Rocher Christmas Tree centrepiece because over the years made some new discoveries. I've found if you glue the chocolates on to the cone they stay fresh longer. As I no longer own the other website I couldn't update the article. I also hadn't mentioned how long the centrepiece would stay fresh.
When to make your Chocolate Christmas Tree
The tree is best made as close to Christmas as possible to keep the chocolates fresh. A guide would be between 2-6 days before Christmas depending on how you have secured the chocolates.
Secured with toothpicks
I have found that using the toothpick method the chocolates start to go stale quite quickly. If you are planning to make your centrepiece with toothpicks I would recommend making it the day before you want to gift it or serve it.
Secured with a glue gun
As this method doesn't pierce the wrapper the chocolates stay fresh longer. Even so, because they are no longer in their sealed container I would only make this centrepiece 5 days ahead of needing it.
Whichever method you choose, I would also be tempted to seal it in cellophane to further preserve the chocolate.
Christmas Hamper Idea
This Christmas Tree makes the perfect centrepiece to a homemade gift hamper. If you choose to make the smaller cones it can be an economical way of adding a wow factor to your gift basket. It would suit a school teacher, neighbour or older relative that is super had to buy for.
Ferrero Rocher Christmas Tree Instructions
Time needed: 30 minutes
This is a really simple Christmas decoration that doubles as an edible treat. Add it to a Christmas Hamper, gift it to a friend or display it on your Christmas table.
- Collect the following items
Polystyrene Cone (any size)- Spotlight, Cold glue gun & Glue sticks, or Toothpicks, 60 Ferrero Rocher Chocolates, 12 small decorations on sticks or wire, mini holly, 1 tree topper, either a bow, star or flower.
- Choose how you will attach you chocolates to the cone. (see note)
If you are using toothpicks. Start at the bottom of the cone, pierce a hole in the cone 1 cm from the base. Leave 1.5 cm stick out of the cone. Push the chocolate on to the toothpick. Continue to add the chocolates working around the cone until you reach the top.
- Using the glue gun to fasten the chocolate.
Secure the wrapper to the chocolates. Then add a circle of glue to the base of the chocolate and press against the cone. Continue to add the chocolates working around the cone until you reach the top.
- Tree top Decoration
Use a skewer to make a hole straight down from the top of the cone. Poke the wire from the tree topper decoration into the hole to secure it.
- Decorate the tree
Use small decorations to fill any gaps you have in the chocolates. I have used two different options, red tinsel ribbin and mini holly.
- Wrap in cellophane and secure with a bow
If you are gifting the tree it is noce to wrap it. This will also help to keep the chocolates fresh longer.
- Have extra chocolates on hand to top up your tree.
The joy of this treat is raiding it. Leave the toothpicks in place and then it is a simple matter of topping up each night. Even if you have glued the chocolates on, once you start eating the centrepiece you can revert to toothpicks.

The best way to understand how these chocolate Christmas trees come together is to take a look at the video below. I made a new video with updated information.
FAQ Ferrero Rocher Christmas Tree
The glue gun gives a very secure tree. It can be moved around without risk of losing a chocolate. I think this is the better method, especially for gifting.
This will depend on the size of the cone and how you space the chocolates. You can get away with using less if you space them further apart and use decorations. For a large cone I would expect between 50-60 chocolates.
It will be fresh for 2 days if toothpicks are used or up to 5 days if the chocolates are glued on.
Yes you can use other chocolates. Anything circular works well.
No, I didn't paint the Raffaella white chocolate Christmas tree as I wanted to keep the white background.
The chocolate Christmas tree can be left out of the fridge.
No, if you have already started sharing the Ferrero Rocher Christmas Tree you will find there will be a steady turnover of chocolates so you can safely just use toothpicks.
