Time really flies, this time last year we were holidaying as a family in Hawaii! Whilst on the island we visited the Dole Pineapple plantation.  The family thought I was crazy, they didn’t quite understand my excitement. We’re from Coffs Harbour and we have the Big Banana, which the kids find very “cringey,” my daughters words. They couldn’t quite work out why I would want to visit a Big Pineapple!

I had an ulterior motive! On so many American food and lifestyle blogs, I’ve heard the authors referring to dole whip! These bloggers refer to the sweet deliciousness of the dessert. Dole Whip seems to be one of the highlights of trips to Disneyland.  The American bloggers then come home and try to recreate the treat in their own kitchen, giving rise to the Dole Whip Copycat recipes I have seen on the internet.

We were staying on the main island of Hawaii, Oahu’s.  The most popular tourist attraction there is the Dole Plantation. Over one million people visit the centre every year to ride the Pineapple Express and eat gallons and gallons of Dole Whip.

The kids did plenty of complaining when we stopped at the plantation but they soon got into the pineapple spirit. It helped that I was bribing them with the idea of a pineapple soft serve at the end of the visit. From the moment I tasted Dole Whip, I knew exactly how it was made! Sometimes the simplest of ingredients create the most delicious of dishes.

Dole Whip Vs Pineapple Fruity Dream

The pineapple zing was just about 100% per cent pineapple!  Every Thermomix owner would have recognised the creamy, soft-serve texture and silky, fruity goodness as the “Fruity Dream.” Dole Whip is a Pineapple Fruity Dream.

Thermomix Fruity Dream

There are a number of different versions of the Fruity Dream for the Thermomix.  This is the way I make my Thermomix Dole Whip or Pineapple Fruity Dream.  It’s simply frozen pineapple, a little bit of white sugar and an egg white.

Use the leftover egg yolk to make a delicious, homemade mayonnaise.

If you don’t have a Thermomix you can use a high powered blender or food processor. So go ahead and give it a go!
