If you need a cocktail with a big dose of "get up and go" the Thermomix Espresso Martini will tick your boxes. It's deceptively sweet but the Vodka, Kahlua, and caffeine all pack a punch that will keep you going into the night.

Espresso Martini History
I don't if it's true... but the story over the internet is this cocktail was made for a young tired supermodel, rumour has it that the model was Kate Moss. It was 1983 and the model arrived at Dick Bradsells bar on a Friday night. She asked the bartender for a cocktail that would "wake her up" and "F$@k her up." The result was the Espresso Martini!
It's a great story! Let's hope it's true because I kind of like it!!
Recently, I held an evening cooking class and wanted to prepare a Thermomix cocktail for the ladies. I usually make fruit cocktails but given this class was being held in the evening on a work night, I thought an Espresso Martini might give the ladies a little bit of a pickup after a long workday.
The espresso martini is simple to make in the Thermomix. The main trick is getting the ratio of sugar, to coffee and booze correct. If the recipe is out of balance the cocktail will fail miserably and be too bitter, too strong, or too sweet. After a bit of experimentation, I think I have the perfect combination.

- 30g espresso coffee shot (frozen)
Prepare for the recipe card method below.
Espresso Martini Variations
Ditch the Kahlua
There are a number of variations to the espresso martini. Not everyone uses Kahlua in the drink. If you don't have Kahlua, or you don't like it, try substituting the Kahlua for the following;
- Frangelico
- Baileys Irish Cream
- Cadbury Chocolate Liqueur
Espresso Martini Twists
- Salted Caramel Espresso Martini - Substitute the sugar for the equivalent of caramel syrup or butterscotch snaps. Add a pinch of salt.
- Tiramisu Espresso Martini - Substitute 10g of Kahlua for 10g of Baileys Irish Cream. Serve with a cream float.
How to Serve the Cocktail
This is a super easy cocktail to serve and garnish;
- Use 4 martini glasses (chilled is best)
- Half-fill each glass whilst holding back the froth.
- Top each glass with the remaining cocktail.
- Allow a small amount of froth to top each cocktail.
- Place 3 coffee beans on the froth for each martini.
Martini FAQ
Add 200g of ice cubes to the Thermomix when you blend the ingredients.
Absolutely! It will taste amazing.
Sure! Adjust the sugar to taste. You can even have no sugar if you prefer.
If you only have Bacardi you could sub it for vodka. It will taste a little different
Once you've tried the espresso martini you may want to try my raspberry bellini! It's a delicious champagne cocktail with homemade raspberry syrup.
