Honey mustard chicken is a creamy zingy, sweet and salty dish that will satisfy the whole family. The recipe is based on the popular "Chicken Tonight" sauce in a jar, but this dish is so much better!
I'm always on the lookout for quick, weeknight recipes that my family will love! When my Thermomix team leader and good friend Gemma said she wanted an easy Honey Mustard Chicken that the kids would enjoy I was happy to give it a go.
I was familiar with the Chicken Tonight "sauce in a jar" but wanted to "reimagine" the recipe as a healthier version of itself.
Why I like this Honey Mustard Chicken recipe
- It's an all in one meal - The Varoma is used for layered cooking
- Quick weeknight meal in 20 minutes
- The recipe includes 2 serves of vegetables
- Kid-friendly mild flavours
- Freezer ready recipe
Layered Cooking in the Varoma
Whenever you use layered cooking in the Varoma it's important to allow good steam circulation. There are a number of ways to do this;
- When arranging ingredients in the Varoma ensure that some steam holes are visible.
- Stir once or twice during cooking
- Keep the Varoma lid on during cooking (no peaking)
- Use a trivet to lift large slabs of meat or bulky ingredients up off the holes
- Ensure the sauce in the TM bowl reaches boiling point and maintains a rolling boil which the Varoma ingredients cook.
What is a Thermomix Varoma trivet?
When talking about a trivet for the Varoma, I'm referring to a wire rack that fits inside the deep Varoma dish as pictured above. The rack lifts the ingredients off the steam holes allowing for even circulation of steam. The mix shop sells a heavy-duty, stainless steel trivet that is designed to fit perfectly into the deep Varoma dish. If you use the link above, simply remove the TM6 from the cart and type "trivet" in the search bar.

- Pour the honey mustard chicken over the spinach and gently stir to combine.

Notes
- Chunky cauliflower rice is better in this recipe as it will leave better steam for cooking in the limited cook time.
- The cauliflower rice should be just heated and not cooked as the crunch is nice with this recipe.

This is an amazing recipe! So easy and brilliantly tasty. As I donโt like too much honey in recipes (I find it can overpower the flavour), I used 35g instead of the 55g and it was perfect! Thank you so much for sharing this.
